Miniature-Painting.net - Rules for the "Visions" showcases

The main medium of communication between the participants of the Visions showcases are the miniature painting mailing list for the VIC and the sculpting mailing list for the VIP. The topic of each show will be discussed here. And announcements of new shows and changes to new ones will only be posted here.

The Visions show event is intended to give you the opportunity to show other people on the net your style and ideas how to interpret a certain topic. And of course it gives everybody else the opportunity to get new inspiration to improve his/her own style and skill.

Now you may say: "Yes, cool but I have seen some pictures of other peoples work and I think I can not compete in their skill". Again, this is not a contest. I have seen many excellent paint jobs and sculptures by newbie painters and they where a joy to see because they had, for example, a good sense for color or some other great idea that hit me. So you don't have any excuse not to enter a Visions show.

There are some general rules for the Visions shows :

• Additional pictures from different angles (esp. back side) and details are welcome. Also some "in progress" pictures would be a nice addition.
• Please write some words about your ideas and techniques.
  • What was your original idea for the paint job or sculpture.
  • Why did you do what.
  • Overview of applied painting or sculpting techniques.
  • Anything special you did or want to say.
• Please provide pictures in a resolution between 400x400 and 800x800 pixels in JPG format with a file size of 70kb or smaller. A head shot of 100x100 pixels would be appreciated for the purpose of a thumbnail. All pictures should be optimised so the file size is small as possible without too much loss in quality.
• The size of file for the thumbnail should be about 2kb. Please use the following naming scheme : "vic9_FIRSTNAME_LASTNAME_NUMBER.jpg" for the actual pictures and "vic9_FIRSTNAME_LASTNAME_t.jpg" for the thumbnail. replace "FIRSTNAME" by your firstname, "LASTNAME" by your lastname and "NUMBER" by the number of the picture. The pictures will be displayed in the gallery in the sequence of the numbers you gave them.
• Please no special characters in the filenames, and make sure the file extension is ".jpg" in lower case.
• If you don't have access to a scanner, you can send me the photo by snail mail.
• Please send your final pictures, thumbnail and text (in plain ASCII text = write it in something like "notepad") to dominic@miniature-painting.net who will upload them to the official gallery.
• Please do all this before the deadline of the ViC show.
• I forgot one main thing : HAVE FUN !!!!!!!!!!!

• Conversions of the miniature may be made.
• Decorative bases may be added. If you want to do a vignette, do it, if the vignette or small diorama underlines your interpretation of the miniature.
• Do not post pictures of the finished miniature anywhere online, before the official gallery is online.

• There are basically no limitations on what you may do or not. You may use any scale, even if the most common scale will be 30mm. You may interpret the topic very freely.

I hope this quite long list of rules does not discourage anybody.
