I know that the paint scheme is too obvious but Reaper's Abyst is one of the most classical demons that I have ever seen.. so the red is the only color that I can imagine on this wonderful sculpture.

First of all I have decided to paint all the pieces before to glue them together to have the full access to the demon's back and wings. I have trimmed the moulding lines, drilled the holes in the hands and the wings and prepared the pins, then I have checked that everything fit well to avoid problems later.

This time I have primed the miniature in white, just to try something different from my usual routine (almost all my miniatures are primed in black). For the wings I have used Vallejo 908 Carmine red highlighted with Vallejo 817 Scarlet and then drybrushed lightly with Vallejo 911 Light Orange to pick up the details. At this point I have washed everything with Windsor&Newton peat brown ink diluted with the 50% of water. After some time to leave it dry I have shaded the contour of the wings and the hollows with W&N peat brown in two passes, the first one with 50% water and the second one undiluted. In this way the ink leave the wings with a gloss finish that look better on the miniature then in the picture. For the bust I have used the same steps avoiding the drybrush and adding the highlight with Vallejo Scarlet + Light Orange, Light Orange and then ending with Vallejo 917 Beige. The Beige look better than white or yellow on the orange, try it and tell me if you like it ;o). Next work.. the bones, this time I have chosen a simple procedure... many washes of diluted W&N peat brown ink over a white base. In some part of the wings I have used 10 coat of diluted ink. For the fur I have used a base of grey (black, white and just a bit of 902 Azure, all from Vallejo) and a couple of drybrush adding some more white to the base mix. Then I have outlined the muscles under the fur with a pass of Citadel's black ink diluted with the 50% of water. I have painted the flames on the demon's sword in blue just to make them more "magical" , the base was Vallejo 839 Ultramarine and I have highlighted it with the Azul and then adding a bit of white. For the loin cloth I have used a dark green base and then I have added a simple pattern in grey just because it was a plain area ;o)

The base is a simple pentagram traced with the cutter in a slice of Das and then painted in black, heavily drybrushed with grey and white and finally painted with blue and green ink.

That's all, hope you like it!
