For me I really don't care for painting classical looking demons, the reason being that they have such a strong image in my mind about what colors they should be that anything else would be unthinkable for me. In other words, I just can't picture a demon as anything other than with a red body and black wings! So of course I painted min just like that.

The only creative difference I could justify in my mind is their unique metabolism. So I decided that my demon would have a metallic skeleton and anything growing or poking out of the skin would also be metallic, thus I painted metal teeth, claws, hooves and wing talons.

The red flesh was done by base coating with a reddish brown, drybrushing with white, applying a red paint wash over it all. I then deepend the muscle creases by directly applying a purple ink to the area and then a blue ink wash. The fur was base coated with a reddish brown, drybrushed with white, then brown ink was applied to the whole fur area. The deeper fur texture was darkened using watered down black ink. The wings were painted black, drybrushed white and a single wash of straight brown ink was applied. The red vains on the wings were base coated a red brown then highlighted about 5 times using a red paint wash, then shaded using first purple ink, then blue ink and finally a little watered down black ink.

All in all, I think I spent maybe 2 hours total painting out of the 1 !/2 months I had to paint. The rest of the time I spend contemplating the paint scheme and waiting for the urge to paint to build.
