Sirithis the Demon Princess
by Paolo "DragonPaint" Guion
I have received the miniature just few days before the deadline so I have decided to use a "classic" paint scheme: normal skin, bat wings, red for the cloths (?!?) and green for the leather (booth and gloves). As inspiration I have read the Succubi description on the Dark Heaven: Apocalypse manual that say: "...Succubi typically serve as messengers, servants or spies to the Dire-dead, vampires and demons.... ...usually appear as beautiful young nude women with such characteristics as small fangs, horns, tails or bat-like wingswich give away their true nature." To follow this description I have tryed paint the face with an evil look with dark eye sockets and small pupils adding then the fangs and the bat wings. Some detail about the paint job:
Primer: black (Citadel)
Skin colors: mahogany brown, flat flesh, beige (Vallejo) First of all I have painted the eyes in white with the black pupil and then covered all the skin area with the mahogany brown. The skin tones are build using thinned down layers of paint, in this way the darker tone show up between the upper lighter tone and blend nicely. For a lighter tone just paint another semi-transparent layer on the previous one. This method let you paint without the hurry to blend the colors when they are still wet but work only with paints like the Vallejo that keep a good coverage also when they are diluited, it's almost impossible use this tecnique with the old Citadel paints.
Cloths: carmine red, light orange (Vallejo) - red wash, purple wash (Citadel) - peat brown ink (Windsor&Newton) The cloths were painted with carmine red and highlighted with light orange, then I have added the shadows using inks carefully painted in the hollows.
Boots and gloves: dark angels green, jade green, bestial brown, bleached bone (Citadel) Nothing special, just a base + highlight boring job :)
Hair: carmine red, light orange, beige (Vallejo) Red base and then a long session of highlight on every lock with the light orange and then some more highlight with the beige (good color to highlight the orange/red if you don't like the yellow or the white)
Wings: mahogany brown (Vallejo) - caos black, bleached bone, black ink (Citadel) - peat brown ink (Windsor&Newton) A simple brown base with a bleached bone drybrush with some ink washes to blend the results and then a pass of flat black on the nervations.
Swords: natural steel, brass, gold, carmine red, light orange (Vallejo) - bleached bone, skull white (Citadel) Well.. she's so evil so she need a special weapon and here come the bone sword. Just draw rapidly some parallel lines with a small brush and the bleached bone directly on the black base and then add some thin lines with the skull white. The runes on the blade are painted in red to have a contrasting color and highlighted with the usual light orange. The other sword is just a simple drybrush with the natural steel over the black primer, then I have shaded it with some black ink. The hilts are just painted with the brass paint and then highlighted with the gold, red-light orange for the jewels
Base: hideous blue, shadow grey, elf grey, skull white, bleached bone, caos black, flesh wash (Citadel) I have drybrushed the base with the hideous blue, the shadow grey and the elf grey and then used a small brush and the skull white to pick up the details. With the same brush and the caos black I have shaded the lower part of the rocks to give more depth. With a light base I have abandoned the usual paint scheme and to pick up the skulls I have used some pass of flesh wash and bleached bone.
Outline: peat brown ink (Windsor&Newton) All the connection between the differents colors were outlined with the brown ink
